Leonard "Len" Fairchild, 86, passed away Friday, December 29, 2017 in Amarillo, Texas. Memorial services will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, January 13, 2018 in the chapel at Dutton Funeral Home in Iowa Park, Texas.
Len was born on January 5, 1931 in Grayville, Illinois to Sherman Len and Miley Elizabeth (Douglas) Fairchild. He proudly served and retired from the United States Air Force where. Len enjoyed working in the yard where he grew beautiful roses, strawberries, and a wide arrangement of gorgeous flowers. He loved going on walks in the morning and took delight in "Dumpster Diving." One never knew what he would come home with.
Len enjoyed prison ministry and talking with inmates. He took great pride in working at the church pantry, driving the bus for kids and assisting at the food bank. Probably his greatest delight was freely giving, "some green for ice cream."
Len loved to travel, it would not be unusual to have him call from South Dakota on his way to visit good friends in Minnesota, or hear from him at a restaurant in Oklahoma, Kansas, or elsewhere. Len was diligent in his exercise protocol. He religiously practiced his karate movements and regularly engaged in these workouts as he traveled throughout the USA. He truly enjoyed visiting with his grandchildren: Krislenn, Kyler, Kase and was overjoyed to see his great grandchildren, Jake and Witten.
Surviving relatives include his son and family, Doug and Marcia Fairchild and their child, Nicole Fisher; daughter, Denise Fairchild; grandchildren, Krislenn and Greg Taylor and their children, Jake and Witten; Kyler Fairchild; Kase and Bergan Fairchild.
Memorial contributions are suggested to be made to the Floral Heights United Community Food Pantry, in lieu of flowers.
